Abstract:
This internship report explores the foreign remittance activities of Janata Bank PLC, one of the largest state-owned commercial banks in Bangladesh. Prepared as part of the MBA program at Comilla University, the report is based on a three-month practical internship
experience at the Ghondhomoti Branch, Koatbari, Cumilla. During the internship, I gained valuable insights into the bank’s operations, with a focus on foreign remittance services—an essential function that supports economic development by channeling funds from overseas Bangladeshis to their families. The report integrates practical observations with academic knowledge to provide an in-depth analysis of Janata Bank’s performance in this area.Using annual data from 2014 to 2023, the study evaluates trends in remittance inflows, target achievements, and comparative performance with other banks. Key statistical methods such as regression analysis, correlation, and Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) tests were applied to identify significant factors influencing remittance inflows. The findings indicate fluctuating performance over the decade, with a remarkable growth recovery in 2023. The report concludes by identifying several operational challenges and offering practical recommendations to enhance Janata Bank’s efficiency and competitiveness in the remittance market. This internship experience has enriched my understanding of banking practices and strengthened the link between academic learning and real-world applications.
